Christ is the Foundation

Okay God, I am listening…. FOUNDATION it is.

Yesterday I filled SIX pages with ideas, notes and thoughts, but I woke up this morning singing in my head, “The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ our Lord. She is his new creation by water and the Word.”  And I know Debby needs this today, which is now the reason I am up before the sun shines today, putting this together.  Then I asked God, “Is this what you want me to talk about?”  So in my head I am thinking; many of you know my husband, Glen, is a builder; so I thought maybe I’m supposed to write about the church and its cornerstone.  But it didn’t feel quite right.  Then I thought of a short story idea I wrote many years ago called, “The Cracked Foundation.”  Okay, here goes….

First I wanted to include what the Bible says about Jesus as our foundation…  1 Corinthians 3:11-17 (ICB), “The foundation has already been built. No one can build any other foundation. The foundation that has already been laid is Jesus Christ. Anyone can build on that foundation, using gold, silver, jewels, wood, grass, or straw.”  The Christian church is built on His perfection; it cannot be improved or displaced.  ANY building material we choose to use will stand on His being alone, not any of the storms we will face or Satan himself can change that.

Why do we think we can do it, “Life,” by ourselves?  If we claim Christ as our savior and say that we are Christian, we have to fight the “culture” of the world and profess that we are who we say we are.  Not only profess but also proclaim with our mouths and live our life by His standards.  We, the people of our country, are failing our children and each other.  God is calling us to build his kingdom here on earth.  When I say, “I am a ‘Christ’ian,” I am claiming that foundation, soundly.  Through Christ’s blood which he shed for me and through the “Water” that flows through me.  In John 7: 37-39 Jesus once again speaks of living water, saying, “’Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this, he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. I can work for/with God because of who Christ Jesus is, the water and the Word. He is the foundation that cannot be broken or cracked.

Connect with your church family this Sunday; Ben Harrison will be giving the message “Just a Nice Guy? Or Something More?” from Mark 1:16-18.  Last Sunday, Pastor Wendell led worship with a very meaningful All Saints Celebration, recognizing the 5 members our church family lost this year.  If you were unable to attend, you can watch it on the church YouTube page.

And so I pray, God our heavenly Father, we worship you, we give you thanks and praise for the Son of Man, your son, Jesus Christ, our foundation.  We ask that you work mightily within us, to guide and direct us in ways that will build your kingdom here on earth.  We call on you, the Holy Spirit, to lead us, strengthen us and embolden us to do your will. Amen.
